Today the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) handed over a home built using innovative building technologies (IBTs) to Mr. Harry Khuduge who is one of the oldest residents of Etwatwa.

A Geoplast foundation system and a Mi Panel 2 Building System (MIBT) were used to build the 61 m² house which boasts 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and a living/dining room.

The 94 year old Khuduge lives with his daughter and together work their makeshift garden – which is filled with spinach, avocados and other vegetables which sustain them.

“The NHBRC is a key institution in the delivery of quality homes. As such, we as Council would like to contribute to this by ensuring that we leave a lasting legacy to various communities by providing sustainable homes,” says NHBRC chairperson Advocate Brenda Madumise.

Last year, instead of funding a year-end function for its employees, the NHBRC decided instead to contribute to the building of innovative building technology homes.
